Taipei, Taiwan --- There is no plan for a time table for the establishment of permanent office of media across the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan's media authorities said.
The comment by The Government Information Office (GIO) is made before the visit by a Chinese media delegation led by Yang Yi, head of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on July 27.
One of the delegation's main objectives is to gather opinions on Taiwan and China media's establishing office on the other side of the strait. The issue was one of the highlights of the Cross-Strait Forum on mid July. The forum on economic, trade and cultural exchanges between China and Taiwan, proposed that the News Media in Taiwan and China should set up cross-strait offices “as soon as possible”.
On this, the GIO said that the forum was simply a place of opinion exchange between the two ruling parties of Taiwan and China. The GIO does not have a substantial project or time table.
The GIO also said that according to current regulations, advertisements on Chinese products, labors, services or other items can be aired, published or promoted otherwise in Taiwan.
