Bangalore --- The Karnataka State Bar Council has proposed live telecast of high court and Supreme Court proceedings.

At the Bar Council meeting on Tuesday, it was unanimously decided to ask the Centre and chief justice of India for organizing live telecast of court proceedings, as done in Parliament.

Bar Council members will meet Union law minister M Veerappa Moily on Saturday.

Since multiple court proceedings are conducted simultaneously in different venues, live telecast of all will be challenging, noted some members.

Bar Council chairman R Abdul Reyaz Khan said: "Live telecast will ensure discipline in court proceedings and also give exposure to junior lawyers on the same. Also, clients from rural areas will have access to live updates of court proceedings.
