INDIA: Speakers to share views on role of media
Seminar on role of media in war and terrorism will discuss topics such as changing the nature of conflicts, intra-state conflicts, security, and media ethics

Allahabad --- A two-day national seminar on 'Role of Media in War and Terrorism' would be organised at the Allahabad University from July 31. Sponsored by ICSSR (Indian Council of Social Science and Research), the seminar is jointly organised by the department of defence and strategic studies, AU, Centre for Air Power Studies, New Delhi and Centre for Photo Journalism and Visual Communication.
The introductory remarks at the seminar would be presented by Air Commodore Jasjit Singh, director, Centre for Air Power Studies. The inaugural address would be given by Air Marshal G S Kochar, AVSM VM, Air Office Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command while the presidential address would be given by AU vice-chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe, informed Prashant Agarwal, the convener of the seminar.
The first session on 'State, society, armed forces and the role of media in the changing nature of conflict' would be chaired by Air Vice Marshal M Matheswaran. Senior journalist Inder Malhotra would speak on role of media in the changing nature of conflict while Prof Ram Sharan Joshi, Subhash Kapila, Prof Hemant Joshi would be other participants.
The second session on 'Role of media in intra-state conflicts, including terrorism and proxy wars,' would be chaired by Air Marshal S Varthaman while Brig RK Bhutani, EN Rammohan, former DG BSF, Dr Sanjeev Trivedi, Sarita Brara, etc would also present their views.
The third session would be on 'Media, security and inter-state conflicts' while the fourth session would be on 'Media ethics and national security'. The closing session would be chaired by Raj Chengappa, while closing remarks would be presented by Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak, AVSM VSM, additional director, Centre for Air Power Studies.
