JAKARTA --- Thousands of teenagers, most of them girls, turned out for a bazaar held by Gadis teen-girl magazine in the West Plaza parking area of Bung Karno Sports Hall, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.
The bazaar is an annual end-of-year event first held in 2003. This year's bazaar, themed "Friendship Festival", was also part of the magazine's 35th anniversary celebrations, editorial head Palupi Ambardini said.
"We want to thank the readers for their support and award some public figures who have made a great contribution to Gadis over the years, such as musician Fariz RM who created the jingle for Gadis, and novelist Zara Zattira, a former Gadis cover girl."
The event featured a wall holding 450 anti-smoking campaign posters. The number of posters is a record-breaking achievement which will be listed by the Indonesian Record Museum.
There were also concerts by top Indonesian bands and singers, performances from the Tarakanita High School Marching Band Corps, cheerleaders and fashion shows featuring former Gadis cover girls.
Gadis, the first teen-girl magazine in the country, was founded by Pia Alisjahbana, who also founded Femina magazine, which targets the adult woman segment. Its first issue was Nov. 19, 1973.
