JAKARTA --- The cofounder of Tempo magazine, Yusril Djalinus, died Monday at Mitra Internasional Hospital in Central Jakarta, where he had been receiving medical treatment for a stroke since Thursday last week.

He was 64 and is survived by his wife Enung Nurjanah and three children.

His colleagues said he was a key figure in organizing the newsroom and information systems at the leading current affairs magazine.

In Janet Stelle's book Wars Within, former Tempo chief editor Goenawan Muhamad hails Yusril as the architect of the Tempo organization.

He designed a new system of coverage, later founded the magazine's center for data and analysis and launched its website Tempo Interaktif.

In his final text message sent to the Tempo marketing team he said, "I thank you all.

I cannot attend the meetings from now on. I love you all."
