Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban says former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's references to the country's highest institutions in interviews with foreign news agencies is a cause of concern.

The government had closely monitored Thaksin's activities abroad and had explained the political situation to many governments, Mr Suthep said on Wednesday.

Asked about Thaksin's use of Dubai as a base to organise his anti-government movement, Mr Suthep said the government was working within the limits of international laws and protocols.
