As part of activities to promote a large-scale march on Sunday against China's proposed "anti-secession" legislation, former president Lee Teng-hui will lead officials of the Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) in a call-in show on Formosa Television tonight.
TSU Secretary-General Chen Chien-ming told a news conference at the TSU's headquarters yesterday afternoon that Lee, TSU Chairman Shu Chin-chiang and other party officials will first discuss their concerns about China's anti-session law and then take people's calls directly.
Meanwhile, the TSU urged voters who were unhappy about the consensus reached between President Chen Shui-bian and People First Party Chairman James Soong to give up their Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) memberships and join the TSU.
"Judging from the current situation, the DPP's promise was not reliable. We believe that as long as the TSU grows up, Taiwan will get a chance to move on," Chen Chien-ming said.
The TSU also announced that it was decreasing its membership fee from NT$500 to NT$200, while people over the age of 65 will be able to join for free.
"The TSU wants to grow into a medium-sized party and aims to win at least 15 percent of the vote in the National Assembly elections," he said.
