The Daily Star has become a member of The Asia News Network (ANN), a network of national dailies published in Asian cities, to provide avenues for cooperation and optimise coverage of major news events in the region.

The network's other members are: China Daily (China, Beijing and Hong Kong editions), The Statesman (India), The Jakarta Post (Indonesia), Daily Yomiuri (Japan), Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia), The Star (Malaysia), The Daily Inquirer (the Philippines), The Straits Times (Singapore), The Korea Herald (South Korea), The Island (Sri Lanka), The Nation (Thailand) and Vietnam News (Vietnam).

The network of newspapers in Asia was first discussed informally by Asian editors who participated in the first Asian-German Editors' Forum organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Manila.

Encouraged by the warm fellowship among them and the success of the forum, the editors decided that a more permanent professional and business relationship be pursued not only among themselves but among their respective publications for improving the coverage of Asian affairs by the Asian media.
