  • Indian Government records: National Disaster Management (NDM)
    Maintained by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management is an extensive database of news and resources about tsunami reconstruction and other disaster management. The site includes detailed situation reports from South India and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. NDM also has information about local NGOs involved in rehabilitation and official government plans on the implementation of safety measures and responding to disasters.

    The website for the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu is to easy to navigate. The Department, however, in articles about mental health and pervasive health issues since the tsunami. "After the Tsunami: A Drive to Reverse Tubal Ligations in Tamil Nadu," published by the U.S.-based Population Reference Bureau in Jul. 2005, for example, cites the Department in its discussion of family planning after the loss of children in the tsunami.     Not nearly as comprehensive in coverage as other websites offering news and views about tsunami response efforts in India, but Tsunami Response Watch still offers a good starting point for catching up with the news of the past year. Many blogs and websites about the Asian tsunami link to this site, which is maintained by www.indiadisasters.org. The Lifeline section offers links to government and NGOs operating in southern India.
